New Spoke Farm grows 4 acres of MOFGA-certified organic vegetables and seedlings for our CSA and wholesale partners, and a summer farmers market. We have 2 unheated high tunnels and 3 caterpillar tunnels; our fields are spread across two adjacent properties that we lease. We grow intensively and use tractors to increase efficiencies as a small team.

In 2026 we are hiring 1 FT Field Crew member, and PT Field Crew Member,s plus a Friday night Farmers Market Lead in July-August. These PT positions can be combined if more hours are desired. Field crew members are an integral part of our team and take part in all aspects of production.

FIELD CREW POSITION

Job overview:

  • FT and PT positions available in 2026

  • FT Schedule: Mon-Thurs w/ option for ½ day on Friday or Saturday for 40 hrs/wk

    • 8 hours a day, w/ unpaid lunch hour – total of 36 hrs/wk

    • Start time and hours may vary depending on the time of year, typically 7:00am – 4:00pm for most days

  • PT Schedule: We ask for availability Mondays and Wednesdays but otherwise will work with you to find a suitable schedule

  • Start date: Monday, April 13

  • End date: Friday, October 30 w/ potential for additional PT hours in Nov/Dec

Compensation:

  • Pay range of $16.50 - $20 per hour, DOE

  • For employees working at least 30 hrs/wk: up to 5 days PTO after July 1, 2026

  • For employees working less than 30 hrs/wk: up to 2 days PTO after July 1, 2026

Ideal Candidates:

  • Are able to maintain an engaged attitude and interest in the work!

  • Are willing to engage in clear communication and feedback. We like to work alongside people who are comfortable asking questions and for clarification when they need it, and providing feedback for us too.

  • Have an ability and comfort in performing physically demanding and repetitive tasks in all types of weather, including bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting.

  • Are confident and able to lift up to 45# individually, and up to 100# with someone.

  • Are able to work independently, at pace, as well as part of a small team; teamwork is a requirement for this position, but there’s also a lot of solo hours. We are a small crew and it’s important that everyone can see gaps and jump in to fill them when needed.

  • Are self-motivated, attentive, and adaptable. We work hard and try not to take ourselves too seriously!

Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of vegetable production including (but not limited to): greenhouse seeding, field planting, cultivating, harvesting, wash/pack duties, mowing, trellising, and more.

  • Training on tractors and other farm equipment, as well as infrastructure maintenance/projects, is available for interested individuals with prior farm experience.

  • Participation in weekly planning meetings is encouraged!

  • All team members help keep farm records up to date every day.

  • Option to staff one CSA pick up per week on either Tuesday afternoons (4-6pm) or Saturday mornings (9-12pm). The schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

FARMERS MARKET LEAD POSITION

Job overview:

  • Schedule: Friday, 3:30pm – 8:30 pm

    • 5 hours a day, with opportunity for lots of snacking throughout work hours

  • Start date: Friday, July 3

  • End date: Friday, August 28

  • This position may be combined with a PT Field Crew position for more hours and work throughout the year.

Compensation:

  • Position starts at $16.50 per hour, DOE

  • Free farm produce!

Ideal Candidates:

  • Like to talk to folks about veggies!

  • Have a clean driving record and are comfortable driving and backing up a 10’ box truck in tight spaces.

  • Are confident and able to lift up to 45# individually, and up to 100# with someone.

  • Are on time, self-motivated, attentive, and adaptable. We work hard and try not to take ourselves too seriously!

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, staff, and break down our booth at summer farmers market

  • Arrive to market at least 45 minutes before start time(5pm) to set up booth. This position requires you to drive to the farm to help load the truck. Then drive the truck to the market, run the market, and drive back to the farm to help unload leftover produce back into the cooler.

  • Handle all in-person sales during the Alan Day Community Garden Farmers Market – cash, credit card, SNAP & Maine Harvest Bucks, and WIC transactions. We will train you to use the different point-of-sale apps on a farm phone.

  • Maintain inventory log at beginning and end of market
