New Spoke Farmer & Member Agreement

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between grower and eater. It’s more than just a weekly subscription. When you sign up for a New Spoke Farm share, you’re paying in advance for your share of the harvest. You’re also taking on some of the risk that comes with farming seasonally in Maine. Farming is unpredictable: much of it is out of our control - weather, disease + pest pressures, and other factors can all contribute to the successes and failures each season. We can’t guarantee exact quantities or perfect quality for every crop that we grow each year, due to many of these circumstances that are out of our control as farmers.

In return for your support, we’re thrilled to feed you each week and welcome you into the fold of the farm. The CSA is the heart of our farm; knowing our members is what reconnects us to this work and is our motivation. We send a weekly newsletter during the growing season that outlines what to expect in the share that week, and includes recipes and tips for getting the most out of your produce.

When you sign up for a CSA share, you understand the following:

  • The share runs for 20 weeks, beginning in mid-June and running until mid/late-October. Our target start date for 2024 is the week of June 2, but this date depends on weather and crop availability.

  • The FULL share price is $33.75 per week, for a total of $675.

  • The LARGE share price is $38.75 per week, for a total of $775.

  • When you sign up, you are agreeing to pay for your share and submit payments on time. You can pay the full amount at registration - which helps the farm immensely - or you can put down a deposit of 30%. Payments must then be made in four monthly installments (outlined here), with the final payments made by August 15.

  • If a 30% deposit is a challenge, please email us at newspokefarm@gmail.com to coordinate a different payment plan. We want our CSA to be accessible to as many people as possible. We strongly believe that everyone should have secure access to fresh, local foods and we will work with you as best we can to come up with a payment option that fits everyone’s needs.

  • We grow over 60 types of vegetables for the CSA each season. Each week we will offer 8-12 items for you to choose from, according to your share size.

  • Our CSA is free choice when possible. At times, we may have to limit take on certain items so that every CSA member has a chance to receive that vegetable. CSA members are part of a community: please respect these limits when they are instituted.

  • If you are going to be out of town for a week, please let us know at least one week ahead of time. We are unable to offer substitute shares outside of the scheduled CSA season.

  • You are responsible for picking up your share every week, or designating a friend/family member/neighbor to pick up for you. Someone else can pick up for you anytime - we appreciate a heads up, but it’s not necessary. They must pick up during regularly scheduled pick up hours.

  • You may come to any of the available pick up locations that week if you miss your pick up at your regular location. Please note that shares not picked up by Saturday of that week will be considered forfeited that week (excluding extenuating circumstances).

  • If you miss your pick-up (without letting us know ahead of time/coming to another spot), your share will be considered forfeited that week and donated. If you are running behind, or something comes up last minute, you can always text us to let us know so we can arrange another option.

  • Cancellations. If you need to cancel your share, please email us at newspokefarm@gmail.com. Cancellations are subject to a $75 cancellation fee and refunds may be offered on a prorated basis.

  • Farm credit on GrownBy does not roll over to the next season.

  • Due to our small farm size, some crops like potatoes or winter squash we can’t dedicate enough field space to during the season, so we don’t grow them. On occasion, we will source these items from other local certified organic farms we know.
